Features: 8.2

The Washburn D10S is just loaded with features for such a reasonably priced guitar. The list price is just under $500 bucks, but you can easily pick one up for around $300.00, and that includes a great hardshell case!

My father always talked about Washburn guitars and how he loved them. He had several in his life and now I understand what he meant.

The tops are solid Spruce and by the looks of it the tops are pretty darn good quality. Maybe not the AA or AAA of a Martin or Gibson, but very comparable to them.

Neck is a great Mahogany to match the Mahogany sides and back of the guitar. The body is topped off with a very nice gloss lacquer finish - not something you see a lot of these days. Mostly we see urethane.

The Washburn D10S basically has the dreadnought form with the squre shoulders just like the incredible Martin D18's and D28's.

Sound Production: 7.8

This guitar sounds really very nice. Comparable with the Alvarez and Takamine models of much higher value. Plus, it sports a solid Spruce top so you can expect even better tone for this guitar as time passes and the guitar gets "played-in" and opens up.

Action: 6.5

I would have to admit that I had to do a bit of work on the action of this guitar to get it to play just right.

The only things I did was to lower the action at the nut and saddle, which is a relatively easy adjustment you can do, or have your favorite repair shop do this for you.

The intonation was quite good as was the neck relief - certainly within tolerances of what an acoustic guitar should be.

Durability: 8.0

The Washburn D10S is a very well-made instrument for the price and it has solid Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides.

Please be careful with a solid wood guitar as a relatively minor bump or a sharp rap to the guitar top can cause a minor split to start, whereas a plywood instrument usually will not split from the same abuse.

The Washburn D10S guitar was put together in a humidity controlled atmosphere and you should keep it in that same type of atmosphere to minimize cracking or wood movement. A good humidifier for your room or home and guitar case is essential to minimize repair bills.

Be sure to visit our page on Guitar Humidity Control for detail information of keeping your guitar in tip-top shape during the dry winter months.

Customer Service: 10.0

Be sure to register your guitar. If you treat your guitar right you will be able to keep it in great playing condition for a long time. The biggest enemy of a hollow body acoustical guitar is the lack or the excess of humidity in the air.

Washburn is known for their great warrantee and customer satisfaction record.

Overall Score: 8.0

Steeped in the tradition of fine instrument making, Washburn Guitar’s dynamic 120-history began in Chicago in 1883. The original guitar factory was located just blocks away from Maxwell Street.

Washburn is still located in Chicago and they are proud of their American heritage, serving musicians for over 120 years.

Paying $300.00 for a guitar of this quality if a fraction of the actual worth of the guitar, given the solid wood, finish and other features.

Ultimate Guitar OnLine gives this beginner class guitar a high rating because it will give the musical student a lot of room to graduate into the intermediate level of playing without any need to change guitars.

If you are a beginner to intermediate student looking for a great guitar as your first or subsequent guitar, don't pass over the Washburn D10S over without giving it serious consideration.
