The Entertainer PartB Tab: I have always loved this song and the arrangment that Chet Atkins gave it an how he played it is truely an inspiration to any fingerstyle guitarist. This part of the the sone includes the introduction and the verse or first half of the song. If you are an advanced fingerstyle guitarist, you will not have a lot of trouble with the arrangement. If you are intermediate, this will be some real finger gymnasitics for you. If you are a beginner - don't try this song as it will only discourage you. Come back after you are able to play more complicated pieces.
The Essential Chet Atkins - Chet Atkins: Here is an MP3 of Chet playing the Entertainer as tabbed out on this page. There are some minor differences, but it is essentially the same arrangement by Chet Atkins. Enjoy this verstion of The Entertainer.
While chet plays this on a classical, there is no reason you can't play it on a good acoustic fingerstyle guitar either. I will admit that his choice of playing this on a great sounding classical guitar was the right one though. I play it on both classical and steel string acoustic and it sound really cool on both of them!
Chet played this on the classical guitar in what is called 'Dropped D" tuning. This is regular tuning on the first 5 strings and the 6th string is tuned down 2 frets to a low "D". Just turn the tuning machine backwards and match the 6th to the 4th string only one octave lower than the 4th string. This gives the guitar an incredible bass response and everytime you hit that open 'D', it will give you tingles!
I have broken this tab down into 2 pieces the first one presented here is The Entertainer PartA Tab. The 2nd one will be The Entertainer PartB Tab.

The Entertainer PartA Tab - Chet Atkins: This transcribed version of the song could be kind of tough for you. It closely resembles the way Chet Atkins plays is on the recording in the MP3 above. First of all use Dropped D tuning for this song. Next pay very close attentions to the Right Hand fingering and the Left Hand fingering. I can't stress this enough as this will be key to you playing this song smoothly. Some of the left hand fingering may seem unorthodox to you at first, but you will see that the fingering has a purpose - that is setting you up for the fretting of the notes beyond the current beat. Once all fingers are in place and you reach the end of the chord form, you will understand what I mean.
This portion of the song includes the INTRO just the way Chet plays it. Watch those fingers or you will not be able to do this smoothly. Also allow the notes to ring through each other as much as you possibly can to create a 'harp-like' effect just as Chet does it. That Dropped D will help with this too.
I will be putting out a few Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons on this piece because of the importance of it and what a halmark song it is on the guitar. There are many fingerstyle guitar players that try to capture the way that Chet does it, but few can. Hopefully this tab will give you some inroads and shortcuts on doing this.
The Entertainer PartB Tab - Chet Atkins: Here we have the second part or the chorus to The Entertainer. This arrangement follows Chet Atkins arrangement very closely. There are some significant changes however. Mainly, I have simplified this arrangement just a bit. It is hardly enough to detect when you play the song, but it will help you 'get over the hump' with this rather difficult advanced fingerstyle song.
I didn't mark many chord forms above the staff in the Entertainer PartB Tab version here because there is so much deviation within the forms and you will see what I mean when you go through the piece.
There are quite some difficult passages in the Entertainer PartB Tab verstion shown here, so hang in there and most of all - play it slowly and smoothly, letting notes ring wereever you can.

Make sure to memorize your songs. What is the easiest way to do this? Unless you have perfect pitch, you will have to learn one section or measure at a time. Once you can play flawlessly move on to the next measure and add it to what you have memorized. Continue this and make sure you can play the first half of the song, including the second ending.
Once you have the first half memorized, move on to the second half, doing the same thing with the second half of the song.
