Features: 5.5

The Takamine G340SC has a solid Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany  laminated sides and back. You look inside the guitar and you can tell it is laminated due to the different grain pattern of the wood.

With a gloss finish, I was a quite impressed with the quality for a guitar in this price range.

The gold plated tuners appeared quite solid and all details were amazingly well done.

Sound Production: 7.0

I played the Takamine G340SC for several hours and was consistently impressed by the tone and volume this guitar puts out. I would put this guitar in the same class as guitars selling in the $500.00 range and the Takamine G340SC has a street price of around $300.00

I would attribute the sound production to the solid Spruce top that this guitar has, since the top is the major sound production element.

Action: 8.0

The action of the Takamine G340SC was great just as it arrived. It is ready to play all the way up the neck as it was quite low action, maybe a bit low for the hard-driving pickers out there.

Durability: 8.5

Being a laminated wood guitar, it is very well built.Even though the back is laminated, it does have bracing similar to a solid wood guitar, which I do like.

The only cracking you will have to worry about is on the solid wood top and possibly the neck. Keep your guitar humidified though.

Takamine G340SC Solid Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

The Takamine G340SC acoustic guitar has a solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides. The dreadnought body style gives you a big sound with more volume and power and its cutaway gives you complete fretboard access.

The beautiful gloss finish is set off by gold tuners plus the abalone dots and rosette. This is an ideal dreadnought guitar for those who want to do some serious flatpicking.

With a street price of about $300.00 this guitar is definitely a "great deal" and one that I would not hesitate in recommending for the beginner, advanced beginner, up through intermediate player.

Bottom line: If I had a beginner guitar and was looking to move up, I would purchase the Takamine G340SC in a heartbeat. Great looking, nice sound, very durable and plays well.
