Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons - Precious Memories Tab PartA

This is a great arrangement to kick of your fingerstyle guitar playing. If you are new to the fingerpicking style, you will find this a song that is easy to learn and a great tune to build your more complex arrangements.

The timing is very straight forward and includes no syncopation, that would tend to frustrate a beginner. You certainly can add syncopated note after this arrangement is memorize and you can play it flawlessly.

Precious Memories Tab PartA - Alternating Bass:

About the most basic learning objective for this beginning fingerstyle lesson is to master the alternating bass that continues throughout the melody. You will notice that the left hand thumb plays the bass "on the beat" very consistently, even through the chord changes. As you progress to more syncopated melody lines, the bass can be played slightly "off-beat", to give the song some interest - but this is a more advanced technique and should not be attempted here until you at least master this arrangement by playing it up to speed and without any hesitation in the timing or mistakes.

Tab Tips for Precious Memories Tab PartA:

Very simple and straight forward arrangement here. Keep an eye on the chord progressions that are located above the notation melody line. This will give you insight as to where to place your fingers for the upcoming measure. Notice that the chords are augmented to some degree - meaning that there are finger placements added to the chords to play the lead notes, as well as the alternating bass.

This song is played in the key of E Major, which is a popular choice for fingerstyle songs as the chords within the major key, being E and A, have quite a few open notes, which make the song flow well and make it easier to play too. The chords in the Key of E Major are E Major, A Major and B Seventh. Note that this song also picks up an F#7 chord. Also I have arranged some of the chords that would normally be Major chords to me Seventh chords, like the E7 and A7. This give some depth and interest to the song. If you choose, you can play these strictly as Major chords too.

Probably about the hardest passage in this song is near the end - in the 14th measure - playing the B7 chord. Work particularly hard on this passage and re-arrange your fingers as require to achieve the best results.

This is my own arrangement and I do not have a referral to a good fingerstyle artist for you to follow. We will complete this song with the chorus, which you will find very easy are very similar to the verse depicted here. Also I will pass along some suggested elements to add additional flavor to this arrangement, effectively making it an intermediate song. Good Luck and have lots of fun with this one.
