Playability That Won't Break the Bank Featuring a mahogany body with maple top and flamed maple veneer, a three-piece wide-fat neck with rosewood fingerboard and moon inlays, PRS-designed pickups and chrome hardware, the SC 250 provides utility and quality at a reasonable price.

HFS Pickups Originally meaning Hot, Fat and Screams, the HFS features a powerful ceramic magnet and hot coils for an aggressive tone when cranked, clear highs, searing midrange and thumping bass.

The Paul Reed Smith SC 250 produces a wide range of tonal possibilities enhanced by a variety of switching options including master volume, master tone, and 3-way toggle pickup selector.

Wide Fat Neck The Wide Fat neck of the Paul Reed Smith SC 250 has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck but has a big comfortable profile, similar to PRS's Regular neck. Because of its strength and longer "heel," the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.

SE Custom Available Colors The Paul Reed Smith SC 250 is available in Cherry Sunburst, Gray Black, and Tobacco Sunburst finishes.

Finish PRS finishes their instruments with a polyester basecoat and acrylic urethane topcoat. Acrylic urethane looks and feels the closest to the old nitro-cellulose finishes but without the finish checking.

Features: 10.0

From the quality of wood to the great-looking design of the Paul Reed Smith SC 250 you can immediately tell there is a great deal of attention to detail with these beautiful guitars.

The color combinations are almost limitless and each one compliments the beautiful choise of curly or tiger maple appointments that is used in each of these guitars.

PRS uses their own design for tuning machines and the tuning operations is effortless with smooth action and no "wiggle". These are quality tuners that will make your guitar stay in tune.

I would prefer a solid Ebony fingerboard to the Rosewood. Ebony IS available on the upper priced models and as well worth the extra money to get it.

The finish as the above pictures represent, is flawless and mirror-like. The Paul Reed Smith SC 250 is very beautiful indeed.

Sound Production: 9.5

As for Rock/Blues the Paul Reed Smith SC 250 guitar is really perfect for that... It has a really sharp, fast attack and an incredible amount of distortion.

This is an astounding guitar tonally. It is very bright with distortion, and very clear... the body is reminescent of the Les Paul Studio but, it is not the cliche Les Paul tone... it is more modern and clear. If you are into Rock/Blues this guitar is for you!

Action: 9.5

Right out of the box this guitar just felt good. The action was perfect, as was the intonation and harmonics.

My personal preference does not lean to PRS's use of their "Fat Neck". While some guitarist's may prefer this, I would be much happier with a slimmer and faster neck.

Luckily, for the Paul Reed Smith SC 250, there is an option offered for a "Wide Thin" neck. I much prefer this as I can play much faster and cleaner with a thin neck.

Frets were perfect - nicely finished and polished and I'm a real stickler for a good fret job, after doing so many of them myself.

Durability: 9.5

The Paul Reed Smith SC 250 is built like a tank with all quality materials. Form the woods used for the body and neck to the tuning machines and hardware. Very impressive.

This guitar will take a beating on the road and still give you many years of service.

Overall Score: 9.7

The Paul Reed Smith SC 250 is a incredible guitar. The tonal qualities, projection and subtilties offered by the PRS designed and built pickup systems is unmatched in the industry.

From the curley maple top to the mahogany back, this guitar is great looking and great sounding. Finish is perfect and the quality of construction in very evident.

I love the PRS Designed Stoptail Bridge too. Is is quality throughout and allows as much adjustment as you willing to give it to achieve those impeckable harmonics you can get from this guitar.

If you are an advanced music student or a professional guitarist, this guitar will more than meet anything you want to tackle. I give the Paul Reed Smith SC 250 my highest marks.
