Jingle Bells PartA Tab - Intermediate Fingerstyle:

This is a piece that I have played for years now. I would say it is a cross between Atkins and Travis, but probably more towards Chet's style. I play it either fingerstyle acoustic or on the classical guitar and it sounds equally good on both. The song starts out solo without any accompaniment and ends in the same manner. The first part is quite easy to play so even you beginners can tackle this one. In the second part we will drift more into the alternating bass type of playing in true Atkins style.

Fingerstyle Christmas GuitarFingerstyle Christmas Guitar: Mark Hanson is a great fingerstyle guitarist and this book of Christmas Songs demonstrates that fact. If you are just starting out with fingerstyle guitar this book may be a little deep for you. There are 12 songs and they are divided into 4 beginner tunes, 4 intermediate and 4 advanced. All are richly transcribed and you definitely learn a lot from this book!

Twelve beautiful new arrangements for solo acoustic guitar. Including: Angels We Have Heard on High * The First Noel * Go Tell It on the Mountain * Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas * In Dulce Jubilo * It Came Upon a Midnight Clear * Joy to the World * Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence * O Come Little Children * O Little Town of Bethlehem * Silent Night * Winter Wonderland.

Jingle Bells PartA Tab

Jingle Bells PartA Tab: This break is classic Travis-style fingerstyle guitar. The difference is the use of more notes to make up 3 and 4 note chords with the middle and ring finger of the right hand, which Travis did not do. He used mostly the RH thumb and index fingers for his arrangements. There is a lot of syncopation in this transcription and this is often used by both Merle Travis and Chet Atkins. What I mean by this is some of the lead notes are played ahead of the beat, rather than on the beat. This places the note in the previous measure and this is a bit hard to master.

Other wise this is a pretty straight-forward break and a great sounding one too. This break is the PartA or the Verse of the song. The chorus will be covered in the PartB Tab and in the PartC will will cover some alternative measures to spice things up a bit to push this song into the Advanced territory.

Jingle Bells PartB Tab: This is the Chorus of Jingle Bells. This break is a bit harder than that of PartA or the Verse, but only slightly harder because of the different chord changes that I throw at you.

You will love this portion of the song because there are great chord changes that are very different than the original score indicates. Also there are bass runs and other ornamentals that give this arrangement some real color and interest.

Jingle Bells PartC Tab: In this third break, all the stops are pulled out, there is more syncopation, a lot of hammer-ons and included, along with the syncopation, and bass runs. What I do is play this as the second break for the song as it can really show off your fingerstyle skills. I could term this as an advanced version, but you intermediate guitar plays should be able to easily handle this break with some work.

Jingle Bells PartD Tab: In this fourth break, which is the chorus again, bass runs have been added to the song, and much more syncopated notes were added too. Play this one through, up to speed and correctly and you will sound just lke a Merle Travis pro!

Memorize Your Ultimate Guitar Tab:

Make sure to memorize your songs. What is the easiest way to do this? Unless you have perfect pitch, you will have to learn one section or measure at a time. Once you can play flawlessly move on to the next measure and add it to what you have memorized. Continue this and make sure you can play the first half of the song, including the second ending.

Once you have the first half memorized, move on to the second half, doing the same thing with the second half of the song.
