Features: 10.0

If you are into fingerstyle guitar as I am, you definitely have to try one of the Gretsch Chet Atkins models. The Gretsch Country Gentleman one of the best guitars for both the advanced student or the seasoned professional.

Chet made many of his album cuts with a Gretsch Country Gentleman and you can obtain that great sound just like he did with proper amplification and or software sound equipment.

This guitar has all of the features that you will want in a great fingerstyle guitar. But be fooled into thinking that it is only for fingerstyle. This guitar also makes a great flat pick style guitar as well. After all George Harrison used a Gretsch Country Gentleman for many recordings and live performances in his stint with the Beatles.

I love everything from the minimal fingerboard markings in the ebony fingerboard to the sweet sounding Filter'tron pickups and all of the subtleties you can get out of this guitar.

Sound Production: 10.0

Ok I admit it, I love that "Great Gretsch Sound" and I have had several Gretsch guitars over the course of my musical carrier. I still have a '70's Gretsch SuperChet in mint condition that I still play often.

I sold several Gretsch Country Gentleman guitars to my guitar students over the years and not a one of them had any regrets. Pure and simple the Gretsch Country Gentleman performs as advertised and as expected by demanding Professional guitarists.

Action: 9.0

The people at Gretsch do a great job of setup on their guitars. The nuts do not have to be touched because they install a zero fret on most of their guitar. Very smart. The nut is the hardest adjustment to make on an electric guitar.

If the action is not to your taste on the bridge end of things it is a very simple matter to adjust upward or downward.

Usually they come from the factory perfectly setup and rarely need any adjustment.

Durability: 9.5

Like I said, my Gretsch SuperChet is over 30 years old and it still looks like brand new. It could be hanging on the wall in a music shop. There are no cracks, finish imperfections, delamination or any other complaints that I could make about the Gretsch Country Gentleman.

Overall Score: 9.7

The Gretsch Country Gentleman is one of the best fingerstyle guitars you will ever put you hands on. It has all of the features that you can imagine and will stand up to the rigors of being on the road.

The appointments on this guitar are well thought-out and everything looks great on the assembled guitars. I love the color combinations that Gretsch used on this guitar and the choice of hardware.

The sound production is beautiful and it has a deep Chet Atkins type sound

If you are an advanced music student or seasoned professional guitarist, this guitar will more than meet anything you want to tackle. I give the Gretsch Country Gentleman my highest marks.
