God Rest Ye Merrie Gentlemen PartB Tab - Intermediate Flatpicking:

Last Christmas season, you were given a great arrangement of this song in fingerstyle format. This season we will delve into the flatpick guitar version of this Christmas melody. Dan Crary cut an incredible CD displaying his guitar abilities and if you are a flatpicking guitar playing you should be sure to pick this one up. It is my all-time favorite holiday guitar album.

Fingerstyle Christmas GuitarHoliday Guitar: Dan Crary is one of the originals - He carved out new territory in flatpicking guitar along with the likes of Clarence White, Tony Rice and Norman Blake. Dan has a great guitar style that sounds extremely polished and it certainly makes sense to learn a few of his breaks to add to your repretoir.

PartA

God Rest Ye Merrie Gentlemen PartB Tab: For the second acoustic guitar lesson for God Rest Ye Merrie Gentleman we are going to take the basic part A break and lower it one octave to make this a bass solo for the guitar. There have been some ornaments added with slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs that will bring a bit of challenge for you intermediate pickers out there.

Since the bass strings of most guitars tend to be louder than treble strings, pick this break with a little lighter touch of the flatpick. You can do this by not digging the pick into the string as deep and just play with the very tip of the pick. Also you may have some speed difficulties with this, just play it slowly and gradually bring it up to proper speed

If you are lucky enough to have the GuitarPro software, I have a special treat for you. In the GuitarPro file, I have added several tracks. A rhythm track, bass track and a mandolin track, so you can have an entire bluegrass backup band playing with you while to practice this one. Also with the .gpx file you can easily bring the tune up to speed by using the speed trainer and playing the break as a loop.

Memorize Your Ultimate Guitar Tab:

Make sure to memorize your songs. What is the easiest way to do this? Unless you have perfect pitch, you will have to learn one section or measure at a time. Once you can play flawlessly move on to the next measure and add it to what you have memorized. Continue this and make sure you can play the first half of the song, including the second ending.

Once you have the first half memorized, move on to the second half, doing the same thing with the second half of the song.
