The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus sports a Mahogany neck and body, carved flamed maple top rosewood fretboard. Set-in neck. all gold hardware. Made in China, inspected and set up in the usa.
The finish was by far the most impressive part of this guitar. There's no doubt that an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus looks and tunes better than the lower trim model gibsons, which cost considerably more.
However, the rosewood fingerboard was not that impressive and seemed quite soft. I have major concerns as to how this will wear over time.
What makes the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus different from the Plus? It is only the flamed maple top - and what a difference it makes. This guitar is stunning with the flamed top!
I was very sceptical about this guitar because, first of all this guitar is produced in China and secondly, it is a very low priced Les Paul, but wow I was very surprised.
This guitar has a very hollow tone and both pickups are very warm but distinctive in their positions of bridge or fretboard pickups.
I find some guitars you can't use the bridge pickup unless you are soloing because they are to high and bright but this one is very warm but does not lack the highs. .
I thought that I would have to do a lot of setup work when the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus guitar arrived, but was surprised that I only had to adjust string height at the bridge (which is very easy) and lowered the nut a bit to match my playing style.
Intonation was perfect as were the harmonics. Frets were all nice and smooth and finished off very nicely for a great smooth feel - not ragged fret ends to slice into your fingers!
The final details of the finish did not quite make it for me as I fould several blemishes and they were in some obvious places.
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus is quite durable. From the solid carved wood body construction the to trussed neck this guitar will take a lot of abuse. Be cautious of some the guitar edges however as there is nothing to protect the finished edges other than the finish itself. So a hard bang on a music stand, wood chair or able and you will have a unsightly chipped edge.
Your new Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the original retail purchaser, subject to the limitations contained in their warranty.
Please refer to the Gibson website (or Epiphone) for additional details on warranty service.
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus if a great lower-priced guitar for those of you looking for a Les Paul type sound. Great sound out of the pickups will put a smile on your face.
From the carved maple top to the mahogany back, this guitar is a put together quite nicely. Everything is neat and clean with very little frills. As I mentioned, there are some blemish issues you will have to deal with in all likelyhood, but for the most part it is a very impressive guitar. I love the ebony finish.
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Humbucker pickups perform flawlessly and gives this guitar amazing sound and versatility. The sound is clean and great for jazz and mellow rock and very able to handle those Les Paul licks!
If you are a intermediate music student or budding professional guitarist, this guitar will more than meet anything you want to tackle. I give it very high marks compared to anything in it's price range. After all where can you get that great Les Paul sound for under $550.00 street price?
