Done Gone - Intermediate Tab PartA:

In this lesson on Flatpicking Guitar you will learn to play the Part A portion of the popular fiddle tune Done Gone.

While I term this an intermediate break, it is not quite up to intermediate guitar player levels. The only reason that I have termed it so is because of the difficult cross-picking passage that spans all six of the guitar strings, and this does indeed take the qualifications of an intermediate flatpick guitar player to play this up-to-speed.

You will hear many versions of this break, and they range from a medium-fast tempo to very fast.

Also, this being a fiddle tune, it is played in the key of Bb. Not too great a key to play a fast guitar lick. Therefore you should place a capo on the 3rd fret and play it in the key of G Major.

You will note that when you capo between the 2nd and 5th frets or so that you can play more quickly and efficiently. This is because of the closer fret spacing's in these positions.

Done Gone - Tips On This Break:

The toughest part of the Part A break or the first half of the break is the difficult crosspicking passage that begins at the 2nd measure and continues on through most of the 3rde measure.

To help you navigate through this crosspicking passage with a bit more ease, I have add one key hammer-on in this series of notes. It is the first 2 notes of the 3rd measure.

This hammer-on will greatly improve how fast and how smoothly you will be able to play this passage - to find out how, try to play it without the hammer-on and up-to-speed and you will know what I mean.

An almost identical repeat of this crosspicking passage is located in the 6th and 7th measures, so you don't have to learn anything new for that section.

Next there is just a touch of syncopation in the beginning of the 8th measure, so work on that technique to give some interest at that point.

Finally I rounded the break out with a few double stops (double notes), to give some more interest at the end of the A part of this song..

Next we will work on the Part B or the second half of the song. In that lesson you will learn how to play more slides, and make some really cool octave changes to really spice things up a bit.

So there you have it - Done Gone Intermediate Tab - PartA. Next we will go on to the "B" part of the break and if time permits, I will show you some variations you can make to this break so you can play several versions of it. Good luck and have fun!
